Pink nursery wallpaper: blush, dusty rose and soft pink palettes

For a pink nursery, choose between Pink boho (white botanical line drawings on a soft blush-pink ground) and Vintage Air Balloons (watercolor hot air balloons among clouds in soft pink and beige). Both work for any baby. We do not have a bright pink kids' design, so bring a stronger pink in through paint, a rug or bedding, and keep the wall beside it quiet with Scandinavian floral nursery, Clouds, Neutral Nursery Cloud or Teddy Bear Striped. A 5-foot accent wall on an 8-foot ceiling takes two 108-inch panels, $240 for our kids' designs. Order a $15 sample of each finalist first.

1. Choosing a pink nursery.

Pink is the color people picture first for a baby’s room, and the one most likely to look different from the swatch. The decision is less about “pink” and more about which pink, and how much of it the wall should carry. For themes such as florals, rabbits and rainbows, start with the girl nursery guide; this guide is about the color itself.

  • Blush is pale and warm, close to skin tone. It makes a small room feel soft and sits happily with white furniture.
  • Dusty rose has some brown or gray in it. It is the most grown-up of the three and the one most likely to still feel right when the nursery becomes a big-kid room.
  • Bright pink is the playful one. It tips into sweet quickly, so it works best in small doses such as a rug, a lamp or a blanket.

Pinks also change with the light: warmer and rosier in a sunny south-facing room or under a yellow evening bulb, cooler and flatter in a north-facing one. That is a good reason to see a sample on your own wall first. Every design here works for any baby, and all of them come from our kids’ collections.

2. The two pink designs.

These are the two kids’ designs whose catalog descriptions are pink, and they go in different directions. Our nursery peel and stick wallpaper page shows them beside the rest of the range.

  • Pink boho: white botanical line drawings on a soft blush-pink ground. The fuller pink wall, with the pink in the ground and the pattern kept light.
  • Vintage Air Balloons: watercolor hot air balloons drifting among clouds in soft pink and beige. The more pictorial pick, with the pink shared with beige so it stays gentle.

Both are soft, and neither is a bright pink. For the flowers-and-blush look in more depth, see the floral nursery guide.

3. Companions for pink walls and decor.

None of these is pink, and we do not call them pink. They are quiet floral, white, gray and warm beige repeats that sit beside pink paint, bedding and a pink wall, or give a second wall a calmer partner:

  • Scandinavian floral nursery: small black line-drawn flowers and stems spaced across white. Florals without any pink, to keep a pink room from going all one color.
  • Clouds: rounded white clouds drifting across a soft gray ground, a cool counterweight to blush.
  • Neutral Nursery Cloud: watercolor clouds in warm beige and olive tones, to ground a pink room.
  • Teddy Bear Striped: teddy bears on gentle beige stripes in a sage palette, for a pink and sage mix.
  • Stars: small gray stars scattered evenly across white. From across the room it reads as a light texture.

To keep pink from feeling too sweet as your child grows, let it be one wall or a few accents, and lean on natural wood, white and gray around it. Sage green is the classic partner, and a gray blanket or oat-colored rug takes the edge off. Swapping toys and bedding later is much easier than redoing the wall. For more on that pairing, see the sage green nursery guide; to sort designs by palette, see the gender-neutral nursery guide; and for a cooler counterpart, the blue nursery guide.

4. Plan the wall and the panels.

Every kids’ design comes in 30-inch-wide panels in nine heights, priced $90 to $180 per panel. Divide the wall width by 30 and round up for the panel count. Add 4 inches to the wall height for trim and alignment, then choose the shortest panel height that covers it.

Two common nursery walls, prices for our kids’ designs
WallPanels acrossPanel heightPrice
5 ft wide, 8 ft high (60 × 96 in)60 ÷ 30 = 2108 in2 × $120 = $240
9 ft wide, 9 ft high (108 × 108 in)108 ÷ 30 = 3.6, so 4120 in4 × $125 = $500

Prices are before tax, with free US shipping. The nursery wallpaper calculator does the same math for your own wall. If you rent or may redo the room later, read the removal guide: we have not published our own removal tests, so test a sample on your paint.

5. Start with a $15 sample.

A pink that looks right on a phone can turn salmon, peach or gray on the wall, and a paint chip beside a paper tells you more than either alone. Order a sample of each finalist from our samples page, or straight from a design: Pink boho sample, Vintage Air Balloons sample, Scandinavian floral nursery sample or Clouds sample. Each is $15 with free US shipping.

To compare several florals at once, the Soft floral pack puts three together:

Questions

What is the best pink wallpaper for a nursery?

Two of our kids' designs are pink by the catalog's own description. Pink boho is white botanical line drawings on a soft blush-pink ground, the fuller pink wall. Vintage Air Balloons is watercolor hot air balloons among clouds in soft pink and beige, the more pictorial one. Both suit any baby.

Do you have a bright or hot pink nursery wallpaper?

Not in the kids' range. Both pink designs are soft. For a stronger pink, the practical route is paint, a rug or bedding, with a calm repeat such as Clouds or Scandinavian floral nursery on the wall beside it. Order a $15 sample to see how the papers sit next to your pink.

How do I choose between blush, dusty rose and bright pink?

Blush is pale and warm and suits a small room. Dusty rose has some brown or gray in it and wears best as a child grows. Bright pink is the most playful and the quickest to feel sweet, so it works best in small doses. Pinks also shift with the light, warmer in a south-facing room and in yellow evening bulbs, cooler and flatter in a north-facing one, so check a sample at different times of day.

How many panels does a pink accent wall take?

Divide the wall width in inches by 30 and round up. A 5-foot wall on an 8-foot ceiling takes two 108-inch panels at $120 each, $240 for our kids' designs. A 9-foot wall on a 9-foot ceiling takes four 120-inch panels, $500.
