Circus nursery wallpaper: stripes with a calm palette
A circus nursery works best with a calm palette: soft stripes on one wall and the big-top details kept gentle. Start with Teddy Bear Striped, teddy bears on beige stripes in sage. For more whimsy, choose Vintage Air Balloons, Multicolor safari animals or Animal alphabet; for a quiet wall in a circus-styled room, Neutral rainbow or Stars. A 10-foot wall on an 8-foot ceiling takes four 108-inch panels, $480 for our kids' designs. Order a $15 sample of each finalist first.
1. The circus trend, made calm.
Pinterest Predicts 2026 names a circus-inspired decor trend it calls FunHaus, and reports that searches for “circus nursery” are up 50% (see the Pinterest Predicts 2026 announcement). Its advice for the look is balance: pair the playful patterns with a pared-back palette.
That advice suits a nursery. A circus room in red and bright yellow is a lot to fall asleep to; the same ideas in beige, sage and soft pink keep the fun and lose the noise. On the wall, that comes down to three choices.
- Soft stripes. The part of the trend that is easiest to live with, and the one that gives the room its shape.
- Gentle big-top motifs. Balloons, animals and letters in pastels, rather than clowns and bold primaries.
- One papered wall. The circus details go into the textiles and the toys, which are easier to change.
Every design below comes from our kids’ collections.
2. Start with the stripes.
Teddy Bear Striped is where a calm circus nursery starts: teddy bears on gentle beige stripes in a sage palette. It is the one striped design in our kids’ collections, and the bears keep it a nursery rather than a big top.
- Low contrast. Beige stripes on a soft ground read as structure from the doorway, not as a bold awning.
- Sage to build on. Pick up the sage in a crib sheet or a curtain and the room hangs together.
- Bears up close. From the crib or the changing table, the stripes give way to teddy bears a small child can find and name.
Stripes also show a ceiling line that is not level or a wall that is out of plumb. Measure the height at both ends of the wall before you order.
3. Big-top details, softly.
If you want more of the circus on the wall itself, these designs bring the playful side in soft colors.
- Vintage Air Balloons: watercolor hot air balloons drifting among clouds in soft pink and beige. The closest thing to a big-top sky.
- Multicolor safari animals: pastel lions, giraffes, crocodiles and other safari animals repeating on white, an animal parade without the ring.
- Animal alphabet: a pastel animal alphabet with soft green accents, which sits next to the sage in Teddy Bear Striped and lasts into the learning years.
4. A quiet wall, a circus room.
You can also keep the wallpaper quiet and let the room carry the theme: a striped canopy, scalloped bunting, a round rug. These two designs give the circus pieces a calm background.
- Neutral rainbow: quiet beige rainbows with small hearts and clouds. The arches echo the rounded shapes of the trend.
- Stars: small gray stars scattered evenly across white, which read as texture from across the room and let colorful textiles lead.
5. Keep the rest of the room calm.
With a striped or playful wall, a circus nursery stays restful when the rest of the room follows a few rules.
- One stripe at a time. If the wall is striped, keep the bedding and curtains plain or in a small print, so stripes do not compete.
- A small dose of a bright color. A red or mustard cushion or toy gives the circus wink; keep it off the wall.
- Art on the other walls. Framed prints and bunting go on the unpapered walls, so the pattern has room.
Our nursery accent wall guide helps you choose which wall to paper, and the boho nursery guide and gender-neutral nursery guide sort more soft-palette designs.
6. Plan the wall.
Every kids’ design comes in 30-inch-wide panels in nine heights, priced $90 to $180 per panel. Divide the wall width by 30 and round up for the panel count. Add 4 inches to the wall height for trim and alignment, then choose the shortest panel height that covers it.
| Wall | Panels across | Panel height | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 ft wide, 8 ft high (120 × 96 in) | 120 ÷ 30 = 4 | 108 in | 4 × $120 = $480 |
| 12 ft wide, 8 ft high (144 × 96 in) | 144 ÷ 30 = 4.8, so 5 | 108 in | 5 × $120 = $600 |
Prices are before tax, with free US shipping. The nursery wallpaper calculator does the same math for your own walls, and our nursery wallpaper guide covers measuring and timing before baby arrives.
7. Start with a $15 sample.
Soft stripes and pastels depend on the light: sage can turn gray at dusk, and beige can warm toward pink under a lamp. Before you order panels, order a sample of each finalist from our samples page, or straight from a design: Teddy Bear Striped sample, Vintage Air Balloons sample, Multicolor safari animals sample or Neutral rainbow sample. Each is $15 with free US shipping.
- Tape the samples on the wall you plan to paper, next to the bedding and any striped fabric you already have.
- Look at them in morning light and by the lamp you will use for night feeds.
- Step back to the doorway and check that the stripes read as soft, not bold.

Questions
What is a circus nursery?
A nursery that borrows from the big top: stripes, rounded shapes, balloons and a parade of animals. Done in a calm palette such as beige, sage and soft pink, it reads as playful rather than loud, which suits a room built for naps.
How do I keep a striped nursery from feeling busy?
Keep the stripes soft and on one wall. Teddy Bear Striped puts gentle beige stripes in a sage palette, so the wall has structure without strong contrast. Repeat one of its colors in a textile and keep the other walls plain.
How many panels does a circus nursery accent wall take?
WallJoy panels are 30 inches wide, so divide the wall width in inches by 30 and round up. A 10-foot-wide wall on an 8-foot ceiling takes four 108-inch panels at $120 each for our kids' designs, $480 before tax with free US shipping.
